Mary Hurst

Mary Hurst, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, July 5, 2021, at the age of 72.

Mary lived the early part of her life in Austin and mostly in Elgin.  She was steadfast to her Christian faith in God and to her role as a mother.  She enjoyed many years as a school nurse within the Elgin Independent School District and Austin State School.  Mary was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church of Elgin, and she especially loved spending time with her family and friends, traveling, going to the casinos, and took great pride in her yard.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, Robert and Nicolasa.

Mary is survived by her husband of over 25 years, Herbert; her six children, Pete and wife Julie, Barbara, Mary Theresa and husband Louis, Paul and wife Cynthia, Elisa and husband Vance, and Jeff and wife Rosie; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; her four brothers, Robert and wife Lupe, Luis, Rene, and Victor; her two sisters, Maribel, and Sylvia; numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and dear friends; and her beloved Katie.

The family would like to express their heart-felt gratitude to the medical staff of St. David’s ICU and Christopher House Hospice.

Memorial Contributions can be made in Mary’s Memory to the Evangelical Free Church or the Charity of your choice.

Family and Friends will gather for visitation at the Evangelical Free Church of Elgin, Thursday, July 8th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  Funeral Service will be conducted at the Evangelical Free Church of Elgin, Friday, July 9th at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow at Elgin Latin Cemetery.  Arrangements and care are entrusted to Elgin Funeral Home.
