Last Tuesday was a weird start to the week week for the Elgin Lady Cats.

The sun was out, yet it was raining; the lights went out before the game started; and “Merry Little Christmas” was played during warm-ups while in Weiss’ stadium.

During the first two sets, the Wildcats kept the score close in the beginning, but ultimately would lose hold and fall short. In the third game, however, Elgin started firing on all cylinders and won 25-14. Although they tried to keep the momentum going from the third set, by going up 4-0, they couldn’t keep it up and fell short by a score of 19-25.

Even though the varsity lost, the freshman and junior varsity teams put up a good fight, taking both of their games to the final set. JV would pull off the win, while the freshmen would lose.

With hopes high and a feeling of optimism, the Lady Cats traveled to Georgetown to take on the Eagles.

After a beautiful playing of the national anthem via trumpet by a Georgetown student, the 'Cats got to work.

After battling back and forth with Elgin, the Lady Eagles went on a run and made the score 14-9. Elgin battled back and would make the score 17-14. After some costly mistakes and some good plays by Georgetown, the Lady Cats would lose the first set 25-16.

In the second set, Elgin fell to a 11-6 deficit and was unable to recover. Eventually they would lose 25-13.

With the game hanging in the balance, the Wildcats tried to keep their hopes alive by keeping the set within striking distance. But once again the Eagles got ahold of the lead and would not give an inch. After allowing the Wildcats to only be behind by three early in the set, the Eagles would go on a 12-3 run, making the score 20-8, and the rest is history.

The JV team would also get swept and lose two sets to zero, while the freshmen had to fight for each set against the Eagles. The scores for the freshman sets were 25-21 Georgetown, 25-21 Elgin, 25-21 Elgin.

The Lady Cats' next opponent will be the Manor Mustangs at home. The freshman and JV teams will play at 5:30 p.m., while varsity will play at 6:30.
