Elgin teams start year with losses to Hendrickson

The Wildcats lost their first game of the week to the Cedar Creek Eagles in a conference home game on December 29. The final score was 58-42, Eagles.

Highlights of the game for Elgin, according to MaxPreps, include a block by point guard Nathen Lewis (#10) and three-pointers by small forward Gregory Aguirre (#21) and point guard Adrian Jaimes (#1) in the first quarter; a steal by small forward Peter McFarlin (#31) in the second quarter; a three-pointer by Lewis in the third quarter; and a steal by power forward Bo Gary (#4) and two three-pointers by Aguirre in the fourth quarter.

However, the next day, the Lady Cats traveled to Cedar Creek for an away conference game and were victorious 74-21, more than tripling the Lady Eagles’ score.

The Wildcats and Lady Cats both started the new year with defeats that weekend at their Saturday games against Pflugerville Hendrickson, however. 

The Wildcat varsity team faced the Hendrickson Hawks in an away conference game on Saturday, January 2; the final score was 82-26, Hawks.

Highlights of the game for Elgin, according to MaxPreps, include three three-pointers by Gregory Aguirre and a steal and another three-pointer by Nathen Lewis in the second quarter, and another steal by Lewis in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Cats faced the Hendrickson Lady Hawks in a home conference game, also on Saturday, January 2; the final score was 75-22, Hendrickson.

Highlights of the game for Elgin, according to MaxPreps, include a three-pointer each for Natasha Stafford (#23) and Cpeeritt Plummer (#21) in the first quarter; three steals by Plummer and two more steals by Anaya Freeman (#32) in the second quarter; and a block by Tianna Upton (#22) and a three-pointer by Stafford in the third quarter.

The Wildcats next travel to Pflugerville for a game against the Panthers on Tuesday, January 5, then come home to Elgin for a game against the Manor Mustangs on Friday, January 8. As of last week’s games, the Wildcats are 2-8 this season overall, 0-2 in district play, and are ranked sixth in the district.

The Lady Cats next face Pflugerville at home on Tuesday, January 5, then travel to Manor to play the Lady Mustangs on Friday, January 8. As of last week’s games, the Lady Cats are 4-6 this season overall, 2-2 in district play, and are ranked fourth in the district.
