Brickyard Boys get downtown bench

A new bench commemorating a piece of Elgin history was unveiled on Main Street on Wednesday, May 18.The bench is dedicated to the Brickyard Boys, a group of Elgin High School students who overcame all odds to form a golf team and make it all the way to state in 1959 and 1960.It all started when Buddy Prewitt, a member of the family that owned what is now Acme Brick, put a nine-hole golf course at the brickyard.
