Jack Flinn

Jack Flinn, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Carmine, Texas, on December 7, 2021.

Visitation with the family was held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Friday, December 10, at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral services were at Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 11, 2021. Jack was then laid to rest at Carmine Cemetery.

Jack Milton Flinn was born on October 20, 1936, in Temple, Texas to parents Willard and Geneva (Hudnall) Flinn. He affirmed his faith in Christ by choosing to be baptized in July 1949 at Bottoms Baptist Church. He grew up in Troy, Texas and graduated from Troy High School in 1955. Jack continued his education at Southwest Texas State University. In time he completed his Masters degree.

On March 4, 1961, Jack was united in marriage to Georgie Edith Carter at Georgetown Church of Christ. They shared over 61 wonderful years together and raised four children. Jack’s 30+ career in education took them to many places in Texas, but he mostly treasured his role as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather.

Jack started his career coaching High School basketball at Round Rock. He later moved to Garwood, then to Troy where he served as Principal. He also spent years as a Principal in Elgin, where his students lovingly gave him the nickname, “Papa Jack”. Towards the end of his career, he spent 17 years as the superintendent of Round Top – Carmine ISD. He loved his school kids and touched so many lives during his years in education.

Jack and Edith enjoyed dominoes, square dancing, fishing, and going to ball games, but their favorite thing to do was travel. They especially enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Louisiana. Jack cherished memories of his first cruise, when he and Edith went to Alaska. Jack also enjoyed mowing and taking care of his yard. He enjoyed all his grandkids baseball games, from little league to major league, and his granddaughter’s volleyball games.

Jack loved being involved in his community. He was on the church council at Martin Luther Lutheran Church. He was a past President of the Carmine Lions Club. He was also a past member of the Board of Directors of U.I.L.

Jack will be greatly missed. His surviving family includes: wife Edith; daughter Melissa Flinn Luetge (Rocky) of Industry; sons Michael Flinn (Jeanne) of Galle, Jimmy Flinn (special friend Dagmar Poteet) of Carmine, Jeff Flinn (Wendy) of Burton; grandchildren Lance Luetge (Calley), Lucas Luetge (Lacie), Leif Luetge (Emily), Clark Flinn (Allyson), Nick Flinn, Jace Flinn, Carson Flinn, and Kennedy Flinn; great-grandchildren Eva, Gavin, Jackson, Emma, Creed, and Clay; and brother Dalton Flinn (Jeanette) of Temple.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents. Serving as pallbearers will be Lance Luetge, Lucas Luetge, Leif Luetge, Clark Flinn, Nick Flinn, Jace Flinn, Carson Flinn, and Kennedy Flinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvis Mueller, and the Carmine Camphouse Group (JC Pohl, Jerry Jacob, Floyd Etzel, Rueben Wunderlich, Gerald Gest, Cordell Levien, Weldon Klaus).

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
