Glen Gus Newstrom, 87, of Elgin, passed away peacefully Friday, March 8, 2024. He was born March 3, 1937, in Austin, the only child to Gust Carl and Louise Anna (Branberg) Newstrom.

Glen was raised in the farming community around Elgin. He graduated from Elgin High School. After high school, he served in National Guard for a few years. Upon returning from the National Guard, Glen went back to Elgin to farm on family land and eventually opened and operated his auto mechanic shop, which remained opened for numerous years.

Glen lived a life filled with love, dedication and cherished connections. He was united in marriage with his loving wife, Mickie Dell Dunbar, and together they raised their two children in Elgin.

You could find Glen enjoying a cold beer while visiting with loved ones, playing dominoes and making cherished memories with his family and friends. Above all else, his heart swelled with love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable happiness into his life.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mickie; and son, Carl Glen.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories through his surviving family members, including son, Bradley (Tina); daughter-in-law, Eileen; granddaughters, Amanda (Rick) Sanchez and Ashley Dewitt; and his great-grandsons, Kyle Horelica and Oakley Dewitt; as well as many adoring friends.

A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home Chapel, with a celebration of Glen’s life beginning at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow in the Elgin Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearer’s will be, Aaron Anderson, Gary Manning, Mitchell Schroeder, Gene Muery Tom Ritter and Joe Nelson. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Roepke, Myron Fisher and Kelly Wayne.

The family would like to express special thanks and gratitude to the Austin Hospice Team and the Austin Christopher House for the care and dignity they showed Glen.
