David Cecil Kastner

David Cecil Kastner, 89, of Austin, formerly of McDade, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Thursday, January 13, 2022.  David was born in McDade, on April 2, 1932, the second of four children, to Marie Brown Kastner and Cecil Kastner.  After graduating from Austin High School, he attended the University of Texas at Austin.  He went on to spend a long career as a chemist for Jefferson Chemical Company, which later was acquired by Texaco Chemical Company.  On May 25, 1957, he married the love of his life, JaNelle Grosse.  Together, they raised their three daughters in Austin.  David loved to spend his time with his family playing dominoes, taking cruises, taking the annual trip to the beach, camping, watching Longhorn football, and fishing trips to Colorado.  He also enjoyed attending Blue Grass music festivals, dancing, bowling, and was an avid reader.  His favorite hobbies were gardening, coin collecting, and woodturning.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 57 years, JaNelle; both his parents; two brothers, Roy and Raymond Kastner.

He is survived by his three beautiful daughters, Debbie and husband, Dale Turnipseed of Elgin, Cyndee Knock of Elgin, and Davina and husband Chris Cielencki of Elgin; four grandchildren, Ryan and Katy Turnipseed, Aaron Knock, and Margaret Cielencki; one great-grandson, Ashton Turnipseed; his sister, Leona Schaefer of Austin; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Family and Friends will gather for Visitation at Elgin Funeral Home, Tuesday, January 18th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  Funeral Service will be conducted at Elgin Funeral Home, Wednesday, January 19th at 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow at McDade Cemetery.  Arrangements and care are entrusted to Elgin Funeral Home.
