Bertha Chapa Martinez, age 86, of Elgin was called home by our Lord on December 28, 2020. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing. She was born October 8, 1934 in Zuazua, Nuevo Leon Mexico to Filomeno Chapa and Heriberta Villareal de Chapa.  Bertha worked as a teacher in Zuazua and when she married her husband Hector she moved to Elgin, Texas.  After she had her 2 daughters, she started working in the cafeteria of the Elgin Primary School. Bertha studied hard and received her GED and then applied for the Teacher’s Aide position teaching Bi-lingual students.
