Last week brought freezing temperatures and icy precipitation to central Texas, causing roads to become dangerous and schools and businesses to be shut down on Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning, with freezing rain, sleet and wind chills, for south central Texas through 9 p.m. on Thursday, a warning that was extended until Friday morning on Thursday. Many schools throughout the area were closed down on Thursday and Friday, including Elgin ISD.
