Prescribed fire burns out of control; no injuries, residences lost

An additional 812 acres were burned last Tuesday in central Bastrop County after a prescribed burn at Bastrop State Park escaped its boundaries. The wildfire forced the evacuation of about 250 families and shut down State Highway 21, but did not cause any reported injuries or loss of homes.On Sunday evening, January 16, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) announced that they would be conducting a prescribed fire at Bastrop State Park on Tuesday, January 18, with ignitions starting between 10 and 11 a.m. and continuing into the afternoon. TPWD planned to burn 237 acres along Park Road 1C,
