Dozens of pet owners lined up to get rabies vaccinations and microchips for their pets at the beginning of the wellness center's grand opening.

On Sunday, the Bastrop County Animal Shelter celebrated the grand opening of the Mary E. Barina Pet Wellness & Spay/Neuter Center with a ribbon cutting. The wellness clinic, named after a Smithville woman who left her estate for the benefit of animals which funded half of the facility, will provide low-cost basic pet care, such as vaccinations and spay/neuter services, for the community. After the ribbon cutting, the wellness center opened to provide rabies vaccines and microchips to dozens of pets.
