Last week, the Elgin community celebrated Juneteenth from Friday into Saturday.Elgin’s 24th annual Juneteenth celebration took to the streets a week early for a two-day long festival of community and culture.Following a night full of live music and dancing at Veteran’s Park, the Juneteenth grand parade marched through Main Street to a crowd of 500 locals.With 35 entries in the parade, the hour-long march showcased the diversity of Elgin’s community driven groups and clubs.Local vendors set up shop and grill in the park afterwards, relaxing in the sun over a few drinks and games.In 2021, Juneteenth, June 19, became a ...
