Although no immediate danger was found, a potential threat on social media led to increased police presence at Elgin High School last week.
According to an announcement on the Elgin High School Facebook page on Friday morning, Elgin ISD administration was made aware of a post on social media that was perceived as a school threat. The district began working with the Elgin Police Department (EPD) immediately, the post said. EPD investigated the threat throughout the night and had found no credible threat.
As a precaution, the district continued to have an increased police presence at the high school.
According to a post on EPD’s Facebook page, there was no immediate threat and information was still being gathered for an investigation as of about 10 a.m. on Friday.
Elgin ISD concluded its post by encouraging its students and school community to report any potential behaviors that could be viewed as a threat.
