Empty bowl project brings meals to many

​Veterans were honored and local hunger was combated on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Elgin’s Empty Bowl Project.​The event, which took place at the SPJST lodge, followed the Veterans Day parade downtown.​Attendees purchased tickets for $25, and each sale equated to a free meal for a veteran. All the proceeds went towards the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry, supporting the organization’s initiatives to alleviate food insecurity in the area.  ​In past years, the Elgin Empty Bowl Project hosted this charitable event separate from Veterans Day festivities.
