Elections for local officials will take place on May 1 this spring. The Elgin City Council approved an ordinance calling for a general and special election this spring during last week’s city council meeting. This year, five of the eight seats on the council are up for election, which includes both positions for Ward 3. This is because both council members for Ward 3—Thomas Ibis and Alvis Prince—were appointed to those positions by the council for interim terms last month to fill vacancies until the election.
