After a month of debate over the share of the county’s tax revenue that goes to road maintenance, the Bastrop County Commissioners Court passed the new budget and tax rate for the upcoming year.
During the first discussion of the budget on August 17, Precinct 2 Commissioner Clara Beckett and Precinct 3 Commissioner Mark Meuth expressed concerns about the road and bridge portion of the budget receiving a smaller tax rate than previous years, saying that more funds are needed to maintain roads in order to keep up with the county’s growing population.
