County, cities see increased sales tax revenue

Bastrop County and its cities have all received more sales tax revenue during the first payment period of 2020 than during the same period last year.

According to data for January 2020 from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts website, Bastrop County has collected and been paid $400,651.07 in sales tax revenue over the most recent month-long period. This is a 11.73 percent increase from the same period last year.

Elgin has collected $194,619.14 during the

January payment period, a 16.92 percent increase from 2019. Bastrop collected $645,670.47, a 19.6 percent increase, and Smithville collected

$43,347.14, a 10.22 percent increase from last year.

The cities in Bastrop County receive 1.5 cents per dollar in sales tax, while Bastrop County receives 0.5 cent for each dollar.

Texas cities collectively were paid a total of $488,728,714.65, a 3.86 percent increase from last year. Counties as a whole collected a total of $47,715,787.35, a 0.22 percent increase from last year.

Since this is the first payment period of the year, all year-to-date total figures are the same as for this payment period.
