The playground was all built in one day with help from 85 volunteers.

On Saturday, May 4, the McDade community came together with Bastrop County Cares and St. David’s Foundation to build a playground.

St. David’s Foundation hired the non-profit corporation KaBOOM! to help design and plan the construction project. A total of 85 volunteers showed up to build a new play structure for McDade families to enjoy for many years to come. The playground was paid for with grants secured by Debbie Bresette with Bastrop County Cares and the St. David’s Foundation.

Without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, the playground could not have been completed in such a timely manner. Many thanks to Bastrop County Precinct 4 Commissioner Donna Snowden and Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape for coming out to kick off the event.

A ribbon cutting was held after the volunteers finished at 4:30 p.m.

During Monday’s county commissioners court meeting, Bastrop County Cares executive director Debbie Bresette updated the commissioners about this project. She shared a story about how at one point of the day, a part of the playscape began to sink into the mud; however, the volunteers pulled together to lift and add cement below the piece.

“We’re just like the postal service: it didn’t matter if there’s tornadoes, winds, floods, the playground got built,” Bresette said.

She added a similar project to build a playground in the Stony Point Park in Del Valle is now underway.
