Crystal Dumbeck became the new human resources director for Bastrop County last month.
Dumbeck previously worked at the University of Texas at Austin as a human resource business partner and worked in various capacities in the School of Undergraduate Studies since 2014. Prior to UT, Dumbeck was a recruiter at Concordia University.
A 2010 graduate of Tarleton State University, Dumbeck received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources.
She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and was president of the local chapter at her university.
Dumbeck, along with her husband Connor and two daughters—Korie, four, and Harper, one—live in Elgin where Connor’s family also resides.
She looks forward to meeting the employees in Bastrop County and discussing their needs. Dumbeck describes herself as “a people person, and wants the employees to know that HR is there to listen.”
Her duties will include managing payroll administration for the county’s 450 employees, managing employee benefit packages and ensuring compliance with all federal, state and county employment laws and policies. Challenges in the upcoming months include learning the county structure so she can better understand the needs, increasing organizational learning, increasing efficiency and effective recruiting of future employees.
When asked why she took the job, Dumbeck said she came to Bastrop County because she heard it was a great place to work. It also provided an opportunity to work close to home and further develop her career in human resources while bringing new ideas to the county.
Her goals as Bastrop County human resources director include working to update the personnel and employment manual and the hiring process. She feels “fortunate to have a great HR team in place.”
Her upbeat and enthusiastic attitude and her experience in Human Resources should bode well for Bastrop County, as she is well prepared to accept the challenges and adventures awaiting her as the new human resource director for the growing county.
