Seventh COVID-19 death in Bastrop County reported

Posted in:

The County Health Authority, Dr. Desmar Walkes, and the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management were notified by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) of the death of a female in her fifties from the Elgin area in Bastrop County due to COVID-19. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. This death is the 7th death in Bastrop County from COVID-19.

If you have been tracking our Dashboard and case counts you have probably noticed a significant increase in the number of cases this week. Since Monday the confirmed case count has risen 137 cases to a cumulative total of 590 cases, with 160 recovered and now 7 deceased. This substantial increase is due to the fact that DSHS is catching up on a backlog of cases that are just now being entered into the database, as well as an overall increase in the number of cases. As a result, you may continue to see significant increases in cases this week. On Friday the regular COVID-19 Weekly Report will break all the numbers out by age, sex and zip code for you.

Please do your part to continue to limit the spread of COVID-19!
