Case count spikes due to backlog

Bastrop County saw a dramatic rise in the number of total reported COVID-19 cases early last week; however, this surge is due to a backlog of cases from the last couple of months. According to the weekly updates from the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), published on their Facebook page @BastropCountyOEM each Tuesday, there were a total of 2,771 new cases—2,351 confirmed cases and 420 probable cases—added to the county’s case count between January 26 and February 1, and the county had 1,216 active cases as of February 1.  For comparison, the Bastrop County OEM reported 357 total new cases ...
