A long-time Elginite who was the first Black baby to be born at Elgin’s former hospital in 1939 has seen a lot of changes to the town over the past eight decades.Annie Eugene Shaw Wooden is 82 years old, has 36 great-grandchildren and has worked with Elgin ISD for the past 29 years. She and her mother owned a hat shop downtown at the corner of 1st Street and Main Street.
