Importance of bees celebrated with festival

In order to promote and celebrate the importance of bees, the Elgin Parks & Recreation Department hosted the Bee Festival at the Elgin Recreation Center on Saturday, August 21. Local bee experts and volunteers gave demonstrations and presentations about bees, and there were arts and crafts activities and other games offered, as well. The festival also featured vendors and tables from various organizations and bee- and honey-related businesses, such as the Elgin Area Beekeepers Association, SHAMBA Homestead, Brazos Valley Beekeepers Association, Elgin Meadery and Down Home Ranch selling flower plants.
