Firefighters help give neuromuscular diseases the boot

Chuck Fromme, a volunteer with the Elgin Fire Department (EFD), didn’t have any personal connection to muscular dystrophy, a group of rare genetic neuromuscular diseases, until about eight years ago, when one of his daughters-in-law was diagnosed with a form of the condition. “Now she’s got it, so it directly affects me,” Fromme said. “It’s really near and dear to my heart. Hopefully they’re going to get some more cures real soon.
