The City of Elgin is hosting a yearlong Sesquicentennial celebration in honor of the community’s founding in 1872. This week's Sesquicentennial Story is from Ricky Rodriguez. He and his wife,Doris, owned the Elgin Sonic and were recognized as Business Owners of the Year by the Elgin Chamber of Commerce in 2019. As a child, Ricky and his family lived at the Elgin Standard Brick company, which is now Acme Brick. 2022 is a year for the entire community to commemorate, educate and celebrate the rich history and highlight the cultural fabric of the last 150 years.
