On February 7 and 8, downtown Bastrop businesses participated in a Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest as part of the Main Event series.
Thirteen local businesses entered the contest and displayed their work. The event is a part of the art and culture experience that brings families, friends and neighbors to downtown Bastrop.
The contest participants displayed their art on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. After the judging, the following winners were announced: first place, Bastrop Museum & Visitors Center; second place, Paw Paw’s Catfish Parlor; third place, Bastrop County Democratic Party Headquarters; honorable mention, R. A. Green Mercantile. Paw Paws Catfish Parlor was also selected as the winner for the People’s Choice Award.
Maria Montoya Hohenstein, coordinator of the event, said more monthly activities are planned by the local artists to bring visitors to the downtown businesses as they begin the upcoming sidewalk reconstruction project.
