Annual MLK Day Walk held virtually this year

Although the annual march and program had to take a different format this year, Bastrop County celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday with speeches from county leaders and students. Bastrop County’s 32nd annual Walk for Peace, Justice and Equality, held each year on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, was hosted by Smithville this year. The location of the walk and ceremony rotate each year between Elgin, Bastrop and Smithville; however, due to COVID-19, there was an online virtual program instead of an in-person gathering.  “As mayor of Smithville, I welcome you to a unique celebration,” said Smithville Mayor Joanna Morgan,
