Animal shelter urges puppy adoptions

Before its usual busy season even begins, Bastrop County Animal Services (BCAS) is already full of puppies and small dogs waiting for their forever homes.As of March 2, the animal shelter had about 270 animals, including over 100 puppies.“We're having what I'm calling a crisis of cuteness,” said Ashley Hermans, director of BCAS. “We are absolutely flooded with puppies and smalls.”Usually, this time of year is a slow period for animals coming into the shelter right before spring brings in a lot of animals, Hermans said.
