Although the Elgin Public Library is still closed for the foreseeable future, readers in search of a new book can pick up a free book offered at the front door of the library. Those interested in taking books are asked to observe social distancing and safe hygiene practices. The windows of the library’s civic center also now serve as a bulletin board with news about COVID-19 and the 2020 census. The password to the library’s wireless internet is also displayed. All late fees for materials that have been checked out from the library have been waived, according to the library’s May newsletter.
