Tough times call for “out-of-the-box” solutions—and that’s what’s happening with Elgin’s third annual Empty Bowl event on Saturday, November 14th from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Instead of the usual fullhouse indoor event and soup sampling, it’s going outside to the SPJST Lodge parking lot, 702 Highway 95 South.
And, it’s an all drivethrough event where ticketed participants will each receive a “goodie bag” containing a hand-deco rated pottery bowl—an Empty Bowl tradition—plus discount coupons from local restaurants and merchants. Confirmed restaurant participation is Southside Market, Jalisco’s, Meyer’s Smokehouse and Roadhouse Paige, all “seasoned” with the satisfaction of knowing that participants have helped put food on the table for the burgeoning number of Elginites in economic crisis and urgent need.
Event proceeds will be shared among the three foods initiatives serving the Elgin commu nity: the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry, the Elgin Community Cupboard and the Food Pantry of the First Baptist Church of Elgin. Cupboards are bare; each of these is struggling to meet overwhelming demand; your support would be a godsend.
Further information and tickets—at $20 per person—are available online at http://bit.ly/ ElginEmptyBowl2020. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended; however, tickets will be available on a first come, first service basis at the event as well. Please be aware that if purchasing tickets at the drive-thru event, cash will be the only accepted method of payment.
