Thanks to the explosive growth of housing in and near Elgin, the city is experiencing a number of firsts this budget season, including the first proposed budget to total more than $20 million.
The Elgin City Council got their first look at the next city budget during their most recent meeting on August 3. During the meeting, city manager Thomas Mattis gave a presentation to the council on the annual budget for fiscal year 2021-22, which will take effect on October 1.
