Nancy Virginia Taylor Oden “Mammaw,” of Elgin, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, in Elgin.

Nancy was born April 7, 1937, in Jacksonville.

Nancy married Horace Oden of Jacksonville, Aug. 2, 1953. The couple were married 63 years.

Nancy Oden was a mom, grandmother and a soldier’s wife while Horace served in the United States Air Force for 26 years, and she supported Horace who also retired from civil service. The couple lived in Jacksonville, Waco, Dickinson, Elgin, and Bastrop, Anchorage, Alaska and Doyline, Louisiana, where they made lifelong friends along the way.

Horace and Nancy also owned and operated Oden Custom Farming in Elgin for 30 years.

Nancy was a generous and humble woman who was the matriarch for her growing family of four generations. She loved spending time with her large extended family, especially with the children. She loved making family road trips and visiting East Texas for reunions andcraftingwithhermomand her sister Carol Taylor Reed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace “H. W.” Oden; and her parents, William “Sonny” Taylor and Evelyn Armenda Jeffrey Taylor.

Nancy Oden is survived by her sister, Carol Taylor Reed and husband Danny of Jacksonville; four children, Michael Horace Oden, and wife Rita of Salado, Jeffrey Dell Oden, and wife Rhonda of Bastrop, James Britton Oden and wife Trish of Jacksonville, and Janice Oden Rampy and husband Gene of Bastrop. She was a proud and loving Mammaw to her 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and great-great grandson. Nancy also left behind a host of nieces and nephews.

Nancy Oden was a Christian of the Baptist faith. The visitation was Friday, Jan. 12, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. The service was conducted by Pastor Mark Nygard of Elgin, Saturday, Jan 13, at Providence-Jones. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Elgin, In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy Oden’s honor to Children atHeartMinistries,1301 N. Mays St., Round Rock, TX 78664-2945.

Arrangements were entrusted to Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.
