Marie Cain Richards passed away on the evening of August 10, 2021 at the age of 76.  Marie was born at the Taylor Hospital on July 25, 1945, to Nugen Haywood Cain and Ruby Simank Cain.  Marie grew up on the ranching land that has been in her family for over 150 years, in fact it was her grandfather who had the honor of providing Adina with its name; it’s only through providence that she spent her final day here, doing what she loved.  Marie attended Lexington High School, where she was a Homecoming Queen.  After high school, Marie went on to attend the University of Texas, Lamar University, and East Texas State University, completing her bachelors and ultimately receiving her Master’s degree in education. During her collegiate career, she was a proud member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority.

Marie taught in the public school system for over 40 years; including Elgin, Austin, Round Rock, Lexington, Del Valle, and Richardson ISDs.  She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Austin, and was a faithful participant at the Downtowners Sunday School Class for almost 45 years.  She was passionate about learning, ranching, and helping others.  Marie had a fantastic work ethic, working full time as a teacher, as a rancher, and serving in volunteer roles within multiple communities.  She really enjoyed her member of the UT Club.

Marie was preceded in death by both her parents, Haywood and Ruby Cain and her infant brother, Morris Ray.

Marie is survived by her only daughter, Rachel Cain Bailey and her husband, Eric; her granddaughter, Abigail Bailey; her brother, Bob Cain; her sister-in-law, Charlene Cain; her nephew, Bobby Cain; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Family and Friends will gather for visitation at Elgin Funeral Home, Saturday, August 14th from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM.  Graveside services will follow at Adina Christian Church Cemetery with the Reverend, Taylor Fuerst presiding.  All are invited to fellowship with the family for repast under the Church Pavilion.  A Memorial Service will be conducted at First United Methodist Church of Austin, Saturday, August 21st at 1:00 PM.  Arrangements and care are entrusted to Elgin Funeral Home.
