Lillian Erna Lena Kerlin

Lillian Erna Lena Kerlin, age 92 of Elgin passed away January 23, 2020 in Lewisville, Texas.

Lillian was born August 11, 1927 to Gus and Thekla Moehnke in their home in Hutto, Texas. After graduating from Manor High School in 1944 she married Herbert L. Kerlin July 20, 1947.

Lillian worked for the Department of Public Safety in Personnel and Training for 23 years retiring in 1987. She began her life of serving others when she moved to Elgin and joined the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Lillian volunteered for everything and loved going to the Elgin Nursing Home helping with birthday parties and bingo. She was on the board at the Elgin Public Library and volunteered doing many jobs within the library. She was President of AARP in Elgin. Lillian drove people to doctor appointments and helped the elderly in their homes. Her last 11 years were spent in Lewisville making many quilts every stitch hand sewn. She loved creating them and giving them away.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gus Jr. and his wife Lorene, brothers-in-law Milton Schmidt and Edgar Mokry, son-in-law Ron Buschow and her beloved daughter Shirley Wenzel (Amos).

She is survived by her sisters, Irene and Lucille; her children - Peggy Buschow, Janice Kerlin, Jimmy (Brenda) Kerlin and Dennis (Susan) Kerlin. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren and she loved them all.
