Ernest “Gene” Franz, 70, of Elgin, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022.

Gene was born on May 5, 1952, in Burnet County to Monroe Edgar and Wynona Franz. Gene was a highly skilled trim carpenter and founded Classic Design Cabinets in 1986. He was happily retired and spent all his free time with his 12 grandchildren or on the water fishing. He was a proud member of the Austin Christian Bass Club.

Gene grew up raising hell in Lampasas and made an early departure from formal education. His career began working with his father and his brother-in-law, Mark Fisher, as trim carpenters. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Fisher, in 1973. He raised his four children in Elginwhile building his cabinet business. He was baptized in 2006 and ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Elgin in 2010.

Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Franz, and his father, Monroe Edgar Franz. He is survived by his mother, Wynona Peterson, and his sister, LeAnne Stewart, as well as his children, Tammy Franz, Wendy Argenbright (Ethan Argenbright), Eddie Franz and Kelly Outlaw (Brian Outlaw). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Cody (Kearstin), Melinda (Sammy), Emily, Michael, Peter, Wally, Ava, Dylan, Gavin and Amelia, who were his pride and joy.

A celebration of life was held on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Elgin with fellowship following.
