Douglas Lee Smith, 24, formerly of Elgin, was born on Aug. 6, 1998, in Odessa.

Shortly before his seventh birthday, he was adopted by Chris and Peggy Smith, of Elgin. Doug lived the majority of his lie in Elgin. He played sports, attended school and enjoyed life in Elgin. Doug could catch a fish in a water puddle! That probably explains why he was such a good swimmer.

After high school, Douglas began a life in the workforce building fences and framing houses. The days of playing football and basketball with his little brother, Howie, were over and life had begun.

On Oct. 28, 2022, Douglas passed away in Hawley. He will be missed by many people. He is survived by his dad, Chris Smith, of Elgin; brother, Howie Smith, of Austin; and sister, ShardayNykole, of White Settlement. He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Smith, and grandmothers, Jean Jenkins and Bea Smith.

Services for Douglas will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon at Lost Pines Cowboy Church, 334 Roemer Road in Elgin. Travis Early and Larry Gibb will be officiating.
