Carl Gilmore

Carl Gilmore, 87, of Elgin, went Home to the Lord, Monday evening, January 27, 2020. Carl was born on March 27, 1932, in Italy, Texas to the late EC and Una Gilmore. Carl Joined the Texas Army National Guard at 17 years of age, and served for 41 years until he retired as a Sergeant Major. During his military career, he entered the Troops to Teachers program and became a teacher after the service. He taught Auto Mechanics and Auto Technology for over 20 years at Bastrop High school. Carl had heart for service and never met a stranger along the way. The love of Carl Wayne’s life was his wife of 61 years, Janie. Carl and Janie enjoyed fishing and camping together.

Carl is preceded in death by his dear wife, Janie; his beloved son, Kenneth Ray; both his loving parents; his brother Weldon Gilmore and his wife, Hazel; his sister, Aletha Jane Gilmore; and his adored nephew, Bobby.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Carla Gilmore; his granddaughter, Lindsay and husband Stormy Barnum; his grandson, Kyle Gilmore and wife Keagan; his six great-grandchildren, Austin Barnum, Hayden Barnum, Jaxon Barnum, Olevia Gilmore, Kason Barnum, and a baby daughter on the way; niece, Cheryl Gilmore; his great-nieces, Brandi Gilmore, Stacy her and husband Bradley Wilhelm, and their children, Ashlyn and Garrett Wilhelm; his great-nephew, Kenny Gilmore and his children, Ethan and Emma; a special cousin, Janice and her husband RH Roberts; and many other family and dear friends.

Family and friends will gather at the Elgin Funeral Home, for visitation, on Thursday, February 6th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church of Elgin, on Friday, February 7th at 11:00 AM with the Reverend, Sam Blanco presiding. Interment with Full Military Honors follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Smithville. Repast will be served as brunch, at the FUMC, before services on Friday, at 9:30 AM. Arrangements and care are entrusted to Elgin Funeral Home.
