Ramirez announces campaign for mayor

Posted in:

I would like to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for Mayor of Elgin. I have had numerous discussions with family, friends and supporters in reaching this decision. The main conclusion was that this upcoming May election will be one of the most important in this city’s history, and I feel I can provide the strong and responsible leadership needed to ensure our town’s positive direction.

Many Elginites are concerned about our upcoming growth. And make no mistake, it’s definitely coming over the next few years. Planned and controlled growth will bring us many benefits but will also come with certain costs and challenges. We have to be welcoming to our soon-to-be new neighbors while making sure we do not lose the essence of our community. If elected, I will always keep Elgin in the forefront of every decision.

I am retired after serving the U. S. Government for 38 years, combined Air Force and Postal Service. I served two terms as an Elgin City Councilman. I volunteered in many organizations, including serving as Chairman of the Hog Eye Committee and a proud past King Hog, Public Safety Committee and volunteering at my church. I have “walked the walk” and I ask for your help in serving again as Mayor.

I have several priorities I would like to work on if elected:

  • City financial stability: The city has taken on a tremendous amount of debt recently. I understand new infrastructure and rising employee costs, but I am really concerned with our debt-to-income ratio and ensuring our bond rating does not decline.
  • Traffic congestion om Highway 290: We have to be persistent and loud. Giddings, Elgin, Manor and our county have to be united in fighting for highway monies for improvements on our highway.

Because of limited space in this first announcement, I will address two other issues in my following updates.

I will make no promises for your vote other than keeping our community in the forefront of every decision. I have no other motive for running for Mayor. I will answer every question asked of me. If I don’t know, I will find someone who does.

I need your help for a successful campaign. I predict a close race where every vote will count. If you would like to volunteer, we can use you in some capacity. Future dates and times for meetings will be announced on Facebook and other sites. My Campaign Chairs are Veronica Ramirez Seever (veronica78621@yahoo.com) and Liston Crim (liston78621@yahoo.com). My contact information is ron4mayor@yahoo.com or cell 512-281-6346. Please contact any of us with questions or comments.

Veronica, Liston or myself can also accept any monetary donations to help us win this race. You may also send donations to: Ramirez for Mayor, P.O, Box 702, Elgin, TX 78621.

Your help and your vote are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
