May 2022 Election: Amanda D. Moore

Elgin City Council, Ward 1

Article Image Alt Text

What made you want to run for this position?

My side of town being forgot about, take a look around Ward 1 compared to any other Ward, the Ward is less developed. Our Ward is being issued less in funding with the most problems.

What kind of experience - educational, professional or personal - do you bring to this position?

It doesn't matter. The only thing that matter is I see, and want to make a difference. Sometimes the educated and professional people are the problem.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing Elgin?

Equality.

How do you expect Elgin to adapt as Bastrop County’s population grows? Where do you see the city in five years?

Equality. New leadership that understands everyone is equal. Meaning all of Elgin is Elgin.

What is one issue you want to fix or improve if you take office?

City Council needs to put pressure on Elgin Economic Development Corporation to attract new businesses that brings in salaries to match the city's cost of living. Lack of money can bring unwanted crime in our city.

City Council shouldn't be able to approve millions of dollars of debt obligations without allowing citizens to vote spending proposals up or down. Citizens have earned voting rights.

Ward 1 is way behind in development. But, looking over property taxes in Elgin Texas, Ward 1 is being targeted, some land have increased $40,000 plus in appraisal with no development or no home improvement. Just the land itself is increasing. How is this possible? These are the questions I will be asking as your next council member. Inflation is on the rise but work wages are staying the same. A big problem that need to be addressed. I plan to address all.

My interest is to make Elgin the best for all, by asking questions, recommending resources we need to develop economic growth for the citizens as well as the city. I plan to make Elgin a town friends, family, and neighbors are proud to call their home.

Why should the voters choose you? What sets you apart from your opponent?

I have lived in Elgin all my life. I see the separation of this town and it's overdue time for a change with equality, diversity, and structure as well as transparency. I don't sugar coat anything and a human is a human whether it's a poor or rich, educated or non-educated, black or white.

Any other information you would like to share with voters?

Elgin Deserves Moore.
