Audrey, a sixth generation Texan, has served as McDade’s go-to historian since 1965. She remains the curator of McDade’s Historical Museum, actively researching McDade’s history. She maintains a treasure trove of information in her files, but mostly in her memory. She is a steadfast volunteer for her community, from her church to McDade's annual Watermelon Festival to conducting historical research for anyone who asks.

She has hand-drawn every unmarked grave site in Bastrop County and compiled this information into four volumes which can be found at Bastrop’s Public Library, the Bastrop County Courthouse and at the Texas Historical Commission. She's recorded the history of every old building in McDade, including its homes, to create an album. Those who have purchased a historical home are especially appreciative of this effort. She's also written a book, McDade: Where Santa Scheduled A Visit, But The Devil Came Instead, capturing the essence of early McDade when gunfights and hangings were a frequent occurrence.
