Note: To slow the spread of the COVID-19, Elgin ISD has suspended all school operations from Monday, March 23 to Sunday, April 5. As a result, the Wildcats will not participate in any sporting events for three full weeks. See page 1A for more information.

The Wildcats spent the weekend of March 12 through 14 playing in a tournament in Leander facing the Austin, Leander, Vista Ridge and Cedar Park teams. In the end, they headed home with a 1-4-1 tournament record, but not before they stomped Cedar Park 13-3 in their last game of the tournament.

The boys’ and girls’ junior varsity golf teams played in a co-ed tournament at ColoVista Golf Club in Bastrop on Tuesday, March 10. Abby King scored 116, Blaine Mueller scored 110, Campbell Littlefield scored 122 and Jacob Villarreal scored 126.

On Tuesday, March 10, Elgin hosted Cedar Park in their first regular season home game. It remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when the Lady Cats put up three runs. The Lady T-wolves tried to answer, but Emma Neidig was able to finish them off and get the 3-0 win.

The Lady Cats traveled to Georgetown on Friday, March 13 to face the Lady Eagles of Georgetown and start their district season. Bella Ramirez started things off in the first with a two-run homer and she went long again in the third. Emma Neidig took the mound for the Lady Cats and the two teams battled in every inning. The game was tied 5-5 going into the seventh. Elgin wasn’t able to put anything together during their turn at bat, but a double by #3 in the bottom of the seventh was all Georgetown needed to bring the winning run home and defeat Elgin 6-5.

The tennis team played at Crockett High School on Friday, March 13. Senior AJ Thompson won first place in girls’ singles, and seniors Tiffany Guerra and Hannah Maynard won third place in girls doubles.

On Friday, March 13, the Lady Cats soccer team was going to honor their parents and recognize the senior players on their team before facing Bastrop in the last district game of the 2019-2020 season. But earlier in the day, Bastrop ISD cancelled all school events and activities until further notice, so the Lady Cats had to postpone the game. Now that all activities have been cancelled for three full weeks, it is unlikely the game will be rescheduled.
