The Lady Cat Volleyball (1-3) team travelled to Cedar Creek on Tuesday evening, September 29 for their first District 18-5A contest.
Elgin started strong and took the first set 25-18. Not to be outdone, the Lady Eagles fought back to take the second set 25-18 as well. As that score seemed to be popular, the Lady Cats fought back to finish out the third set, 25-18 one more time. Elgin showed their ability to close out a match and fought hard to easily win the fourth and final set 25-14.
Coach Debra Wills Covault felt that several of her players especially contributed to the win. She was really pleased with junior outside hitter Aliyah Frazier, who she credits with bringing the team momentum when she attacks the net. Frazier finished with nine kills, three blocks and two digs. Senior outside hitter Morgan Heine also played outstanding, with nine kills and four digs. Junior Libero Hailey Girod starred on defense with 26 digs. Senior setter Anna Navarro had 18 assists, seven kills, 10 digs and four aces, along with sophomore Cinthia Navarro’s contribution of 16 assists, eight digs and two aces. Kirsten Gonzales and Genna Crafts were also instrumental in the win.
Unfortunately, Pflugerville came to the Lady Wildcat gym on Friday evening, October 2 and overwhelmed Elgin, winning in three straight sets 25-11, 25-21 and 25-23.
