Shirley Coglan Corbett, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed from this world to her Heavenly home into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 29, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward H “Pete” Corbett, and precious son Gary Wayne “Grub” Corbett.

Shirley was born to Perry Clarence Cogland and Christine Wheat Coglan on May 14, 1937 in Austin, Texas. She is survived by her daughter Donna Machala and Thomas, grandaughter Wendy Holt and sons Steven and Patrick, grandson David Holt and wife Mariana and son Tristan, grandson Jason Holt and wife Lisa, daughter Marissa and sons Ryan and Dylan, grandson Jeffrey Corbett and her honorary sister Jeanie Snyder, as well as her many, many friends.

After graduating from Mc-Callum High School, Shirley met and married the love of her life, Pete Corbett. At the time of his death, they had been married 56 beautiful years. Shirley attended Durham Business College and graduated from Victor Key Punch. She spent 20 years being a military wife, moving from Missouri, to Nebraska, to Del Rio and back to Austin. In 1971 Shirley moved to Elgin and went to work for Weed Instruments for 30 years.

Shirley’s faith, family and friends were important to her. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She felt closer to God when she was outside tending to her plants and flowers. As a member of First Baptist Church Shirley worked in the Children’s and Youth Divisions teaching Sunday School, as well as helping with Vacation Bible School and the nursery. She also helped when she could with funeral luncheons as well as at the food pantry. Shirley and Pete served on the Lord’s Supper Committee.

She loved people, traveling, reading, cooking, baking and fishing. While homebound, she missed the Drive A Senior trips with Pam Ficklin at the wheel, and the fun times they had! She always looked forward to Friday lunch with Sherry Earnhart and Ann Franz. Then there was her Tuesday breakfast club with Carolyn Ponder, Ada Johnson, Mary Boyer, Amparo Garza, Patty Russell and Kathy McGee. Shirley forged many great friendships that have carried her through the toughest of times.

Shirley was inspired by her Lord and Savior to be an inspiration to others to accept Jesus as their savior and live with Him in Eternity. The choice is theirs!
