Gloria Lorene McCorkle, age 79, of Elgin passed away Friday, October 10, 2019.
Gloria Lorene Strunk was born July 17, 1940 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The youngest baby of 8 siblings born to William and Anna Strunk. She married Ron Travis and became the mother of two daughters, Angie and Michelle. She was later widowed and after a time married Irvin McCorkle of Oklahoma City.
Together with Irvin, she pastored in the Oklahoma City then Beaumont and then the Indianapolis area. In June of 1989 they answered the call to come to pastor a congregation of 12 in Elgin, Texas known as the Coon-Neck Community Church (Now called the Family Worship Center), and have served as pastors and apostles since their arrival.
Gloria is dearly missed by the family she left behind, husband Irvin McCorkle, and children Angie Edmon, Michelle Voyles, Irvin McCorkle Jr, Angela Smith, and Kimberly Carter, and by her 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Gloria’s commitment to her faith, her family, to world missions and to building lasting legacy have made an impact on people from all over the world, both in her own community and in far away communities. She prioritized her family always and worked tirelessly to cultivate personal time and relationships with each member. She will always be remembered for her kindness and love to all who knew her, her sophistication and dignified composure, her love and tender spoiling of her grandchildren, and her beautiful red hair. She was a beauty queen, an avid bowler, a lover of travel, and had a heart of solid gold.
A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, October 15, 2019, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of Gloria’s Life will be held 10:00 Wednesday, October 16, 2019, Family Worship Center.
