Carolyn McMurray Nelson passed away on Nov. 3, 2022, in Elgin with her family by her side. She was born in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, to Francis and Caroline Antony McMurray on Feb. 16, 1928. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bernard, Francis and Frederick; and four sisters Frances, Blanche, Isabel and baby Patricia, who passed away at 3 years of age.

arolyn was married to Kenneth Strong Nelson. They shared 66 years at the time of his passing. 

The family lived in Wharton for 18 years, where she attended Wharton County Junior College.  Carolyn was a deputy tax collector for Wharton County for 14 years and later retired from The Texas Highway Department, now the Department of Transportation, in Austin as an administrator assistant after more than 20 years of service. After several years, she and her husband settled in their home in Cedar Park, where they would make their home for over 44years. She spent her last years in Elgin. They traveled to many foreign countries and spent winters in McAllen, at the mobile home they purchased. Carolyn and Kenneth were members of St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Lake Travis.

Carolyn is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Frank and Thomas Alan Nelson; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Karen, Garrett and Carlye; and nine great-grandchildren. She will be laid to rest at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements and care entrusted to
