Carl Lee Guthrie Sr., age 74, of Elgin, passed away on Dec. 12, 2022. Carl was born on Feb. 16, 1948, in Elgin to Marlin Victor and Joyce (Rengar) Guthrie.

Carl served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during his service. He made his living as a cabinet maker and owned his own cabinetry business. Since 1984, Carl built every house he lived in from start to finish including all the furniture. He also helped his family build their houses. Carl enjoyed rebuilding cars as well. He rebuilt a 1951 Ford and 1967 GTO from the ground up. Carl liked to ride motorcycles and to go fishing. In his younger years, he liked to ride horses. Carl taught himself how to do everything that he knew; a true self-taught, hardworking man.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Marlin and Joyce. He is survived by his wife, Mirna (Valecillo) Guthrie; his sons, Carl Guthrie Jr. and Alan Stark; and his daughter, Laura Guthrie.

A visitation was held on Thursday, Dec. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A graveside service was held on Friday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m. at Knobbs Springs Cemetery in McDade.
