Elgin-area voters failed to pass a proposition that would have allowed the local emergency services district to collect sales tax in its jurisdiction. As of 7:11 p.m. on Election Day last Tuesday, a total of 663 early and 15 absentee ballots had been cast in Bastrop County regarding this proposition. In Travis County, where the district covers a much smaller area just west of Elgin, 43 early votes and 6 absentee ballots had been counted.
