State Representative John Cyrier was the guest speaker at the Smithville Chamber of Commerce luncheon on January 29. He was introduced by Mac Simpson, who is the chair of the Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee. Cyrier, who was appointed as chair of the Culture, Recreation and Tourism Committee by Governor Greg Abbott, gave an update on actions taken by the Texas Legislature in the last session. The representative gave thanks to the voters in November for a constitutional amendment that gave full state funding of the sporting goods sales taxes collected to parks.
