Sheriff’s office warns of warrant scam

In June, the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office warned citizens of a telephone scam threatening victims with arrest for fictitious outstanding warrants. BCSO posted an announcement to their Facebook page on June 21 saying they have received several reports about a scam in which the caller claims to be a Bastrop County deputy named Keith Montgomery. The “deputy” tells the victim that they have warrants that will result in an arrest if they fail to pay a fee through gift cards with a specific dollar amount.
