Having small quantities of marijuana is — on its own — no longer a punishable offense in Elgin.Proposition A passed in the Nov. 8 special election in Elgin. The Bastrop County Elections office reports 74% of residents voted for the ordinance, while 26% votes were against the new ordinance. “We are currently working with our neighboring counties to determine what impact this will have on our citizens,” said Mayor Theresa McShan, “especially since Elgin encompasses two different counties.”The prop asked voters if an initiative petition be approved to eliminate enforcement of low-level marijuana offenses.
